STUDENT SINGING AND HANDBELL INSTRUCTION is usually gained from--but not limited to-- the music class at St. John Catholic School.

WEEKEND PARISH MASSES: any student of the parish who is grade 5 - 12 may be trained as a psalmist and/or cantor in a graduated fashion. Grades 5 - 8 may only sing the psalm alone (not the entire Mass) or sing the entire Mass in a "cantor group". Any student who has already played bells through St. John School may also play in small bell groups from the choir loft.  Students may both sing as psalmist, in a cantor group and play bells in the same Mass. Contact Mr. Royal (574-825-5888) for information.

MID-WEEK SCHOOL MASSES: Student cantors & handbell ringers regularly sing and play at the Student 8:00 AM Masses on Wednesdays and Fridays.
CLICK HERE TO SEE THE SCHEDULE FOR STUDENT PSALMISTS, CANTORS AND SERVERS. Some cantors choose to sing individually the psalm,  while others choose to sing the communion song within a "cantor group".  Others are gifted at playing the handbells.
Student Handbell Ringer
s:  Students in grades 2 through 5 received training in rhythm and group ensembles by playing handbells in the Thursday music class.  This year, Grades 4 through 5 play will only play handbells on Holy Days or weekdays leading up to Holy Days so that more attention may be given to singing and music theory/history.  Generally, the handbells are played by which ever cantor group is assigned for the particular weekday.  (Click on green letters above for cantor schedule.)  Students may also play for the children's Christmas Mass Eve Mass.

SCHOOL CONCERTS: students sing for at least one concert per year through the school.  Choral skills are learning in music class.

CHRISTMAS EVE MASS: students in grades 5 - 12 (regardless of what school they go to) are invited each year to sing or play for the Christmas Eve Family Mass (usually around 4:30 PM--but one should call the church office for the exact Christmas Mass times:  574-533-3385.)
